September 2021 Update
This is FREDAfricas teenage mother giving a service to the community. They were plating hair for their fellow women to value and showcase the spirit of an African woman and her beauty. Big to you all who supported these single mothers to acquire such a wonderful skill. They are now empowered, and this skill now enables them to earn a living a taking care of their children. Hairdressing and beauty in Uganda is a skill and a source of income for the youths. Together can join hands and continue empowering girls in such sustainable community skills for youths.
FREDAfrca Community Shelter for Teenage Mothers is a safe place centre that provides rehabilitation and counselling services to the teenage mothers and women who are victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
We also provide vocational skills programs where they undergo for a six months certificate Course in Hairdressing and Beauty, Fashions and Designing in Tailoring, Pastry (Bridal Cakes and Normal ones).
All these skills are intended to equip these teenage mothers and women with survival skills and also to create their own jobs. When they graduate, FREDAfrica supports them with small loans in materials for the start of their business.
However, there are also challenges faced in this project and these include the following;
- These teenage mothers have their babies and they don’t have enough support within the Shelter before the completion of their certificate courses. (Diapers, Clothes for their babies, treatment for their children when they fall sick.)
- Teenage mothers don’t have materials used during their courses, they don’t have sanitary pads, Towels and some of them don’t have bedding.
- FREDAfrica also has faced with a Challenge of Meals for both Babies and their mothers.
PLEASE LEND US A HAND TO CONTINUE SUPPORTING THESE TEENAGE MOTHERS AND THEIR CHILDREN.
